Happy Valentine’s Day: 5 Flower- and Chocolate-Free Activities

Do you remember the last time you started seeing advertisements with “Happy Valentine’s Day!” in large red, white or pink letters? How did you feel? On the LEO team, somehow, despite our best efforts, we end up scrambling at the last minute to buy our partners a gift that is thoughtful but isn’t too “cheesy.” Sometimes, we get tired of giving the ones we love flowers and/or chocolate over and over again.

If you’re the kind of person who can easily find gifts and have the day planned out long before February 14, we salute your organizational skills! However, if you still haven’t thought of how to wish your partner a Happy Valentine’s Day this year (or can’t be with your partner, or don’t have one), we have some excellent ideas that would work well for your partner, a friend, or even yourself! All of them are experiences, so there’s no need to pay double for a bouquet of roses if you don’t want to!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY: 5 SUGGESTIONS FROM THE LEO TEAM

1. GO SLEDDING

This pandemic has been really stressful. If you and the one you love enjoy outdoor activities, why not spend an afternoon together unleashing your inner children by going sledding? It doesn’t hurt that walking back up the hill is great exercise!

2. CHALLENGE EACH OTHER TO A VALENTINE’S DAY COOKING SHOWDOWN

If you and your partner are fans of learning new things and being creative, why not try a cooking challenge? Pick one item in your pantry and challenge your partner to come up with an appetizer, main course or dessert featuring that ingredient. You might be surprised at how delicious their creation is…talk about a happy Valentine’s Day!

3. LEARN HOW TO PLAY A NEW BOARD GAME

If your love language is quality time, you might especially like this option. Discuss what types of games you like best, and then order one online, pick one up in-store or borrow one from a friend!

4. BOOK A HOTEL FOR THE EVENING TO TAKE A WELL-DESERVED BREAK AWAY FROM HOME

Why not spend a night away from home to de-stress? If you both like the outdoors, renting a cabin in the woods could be a great idea to relax. If you prefer the city, spending a night in a nice hotel might be more your thing. Don’t forget to enter LEO’s February special contests on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok: you could win a $500 Hotels.com gift card for a future getaway!

5. LOOK THROUGH OLD PHOTOS TOGETHER

If the two of you are sentimental, you might enjoy looking through old photos together, whether they’re printed or on your smartphone! Sharing your stories with the person you love is a great way to get closer and learn new things about each other. If you find any you particularly like, you could frame them for a future gift!
