This survey is conducted in collaboration with the Association for Canadian Studies (ACS) and published in the Canadian Press. 


The Federal Budget

  • Canadians think the April 19 federal budget should focus on tax reductions for average Canadians (35%) rather than increased spending on pandemic programs (25%), spending reductions to reduce the deficit (17%), or tax relief for small businesses (12%).
  • 68% of Canadians agree that the federal budget should lay out a plan to shift Canada’s economy away from fossil fuels toward renewable and alternative energy production

The Deficit and the Next Election

  • 71% of Canadians and 69% of Americans are worried about the size of the current federal deficit in their respective countries. 
  • Only 14% of Canadians would prefer to have a federal election this spring.

METHODOLOGY

This web survey was conducted from April 9, 2021 to April 11, 2021 with 1,504 Canadians and 1,002 Americans, 18 years of age or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel.
