This survey is conducted in collaboration with the Association for Canadian Studies (ACS) and published in the Canadian Press. 

GENDER EQUALITY

  • 73% of Canadian women and 58% of American women think gender equality has not been achieved in their country.
  • 73% of Canadian women and 60% of American women think men earn more than women for the same job in their country.
  • 57% of Canadian women and 40% of American women think that to achieve gender equality, public organizations in their country should implement a quota to ensure a minimum number of women on their boards of directors.

PERCEPTIONS BY GENDER

In both Canada and the United States, women are more likely than men to: 

  • Feel that in their country, men earn more than women for the same job 
  • Think that public organizations in their country should implement a quota to ensure a minimum number of women on their boards of directors 

In both Canada and the United States, men are more likely than women to: 

  • Feel that gender equality has been achieved in their country 
  • Feel that gender equality has been achieved in all the fields mentioned in the survey (at home, in social settings, in media, at work, in sciences, in politics, in sports) 

SURVEY METHODOLOGY

This web survey was conducted from February 26, 2021 to February 28, 2021, with 1,532 Canadians and 1,002 Americans, 18 years of age or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel To view the March 8, 2021 report, CLICK HERE.
