Are you a gamer? If so, have you always been one, or did you pick up gaming during the pandemic, searching for a way to alleviate the boredom brought on by so many hours spent at home? If you could create a list of video game recommendations for 2021, which ones would you add?

The pandemic resulted in a huge boom for the video game industry. Video game industry titans, including Microsoft, Nintendo, Twitch and Activision have seen increased subscriptions and sales, as well as increased engagement.1 New gamers have realized something die-hard gamers probably knew all along: gaming is the perfect pandemic activity. It’s a great way to social distance, and gaming advances in recent years have led to more online multiplayer games than ever before.

OUR 8 VIDEO GAME RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 2021

In no particular order…

1. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (released in 2020)

Longtime Assassin’s Creed fans have come to appreciate the magnificent, immersive world it offers players. Valhalla is the 12th installation in the series, and PC Gamer rated it the “best Assassin’s Creed to date.”2 Pairing interesting history with epic Viking combat, this game is not to be missed. Don’t forget about the Wrath of the Druids expansion, released in May 2021.

Recently released, this game made our list of video game recommendations for 2021 because we feel it really lives up to the hype generated before its release! A reimagining of the original Final Fantasy VII, which came out for PlayStation in 1997, it’s a gorgeous and sprawling dystopian cyberpunk RPG that offers a great immersive experience.

4. Far Cry 6 (scheduled for release in October 2021)

The 6th edition of the first-person shooter Far Cry series takes place in the fictional world of Yara. As Dani Rojas, you’ll be part of a revolution in opposition to the local dictator, President Anton Castillo. As noted by PC Gamer, arcade mode and the map builder won’t be available, but Far Cry 6 is still a highly-anticipated release: hence why it’s landed on our list of video game recommendations.

7. MLB: The Show 21 (released April 2021), Madden NFL 22 (scheduled for release in August 2021), NBA 2K22 (scheduled for release in September 2021), NHL 22 (release date TBD)

One of our favourite parts of playing sports games is how they are consistently released year after year with great new features. The sports fans among us really enjoyed playing these games with our equally sports-loving friends during the pandemic, and we’re excited for the new releases!

8. It Takes Two (released March 2021)

Do you love co-op gameplay? If so, we recommend It Takes Two! Transcending gaming genres, this 100% co-op game features two main characters, Cody and May, a couple (recently turned into dolls due to a magic spell) in conflict. It is focused on tackling interesting challenges that the two characters must collaborate on to pass.
